From historic buildings to traditional houses, discover our architectural top 5.

Located a stone's throw from Bergburg in the Yellow-Hill region, St-Peter is THE city to visit for lovers of art and history buildings. In this article, we present our selection of the most beautiful places to visit in Saint-Peter.

Saint-Peter courthouse, an old german style building

This magnificent 18th century building formerly served as second homes for the Duke of Yellow Hill County. Converted into a courthouse, it still has its original facade which has been maintained and preserved over time. Its rounded style makes this monument all the more unique. It is also surrounded by exceptional flowered parks to see in spring and summer.

The fortified church of St-Peter

If you come to Saint-Peter, you must absolutely visit its fortified church. It is one of the few fortified churches in the world still intact and unaltered. The reason why it still has these ramparts is unknown. Legend says that a complete and unknown chapter of the First Epistle of Peter is hidden somewhere in the structure of the church. Peter the Apostle himself is said to have deposited the relic fragment in this church during one of his travels.

The town hall, Place Lennard and these bridges

The town hall of Saint-Peter is certainly the most beautiful in the whole region. Surrounded by the Place Lennard open on the quays, this building has an extraordinary facade. As you can see from the photo, its beauty and complexity make this place a must-see in the city. In addition, nothing better in hot weather than to stroll on the quays, or to rest in the shade of the trees on a square rich in sculpture. Finally, nothing prevents you from continuing your visit by crossing the canal via one of the two magnificent 17th century bridges.

The colorfull house of the place Martjin

If you decide to take a stroll along the quays, be sure to admire the German-Gothic houses in Place Martjin. Built in a rounded shape and thus blending perfectly with the main monument of the square, these charming houses with tickling colors will not fail to surprise you. The symmetrical construction of the buildings and the square will remind you of the so-called “French” style of the Enlightenment gardens.

The neo-retro theater of the 19th century

Finally, crossing the canal from Place Martjin, you will arrive at our last monument of this selection: the neo-retro museum of St-Peter. Completed in the early 1900s, the famous theater was designed by the equally famous architect Ternat Phillip a few years earlier. Designed as a simple architectural project, the theater will be built a few years after the death of this great man. Very modern both for its exterior and interior architecture, it is nevertheless covered with details directly copied from the previous century, giving the monument these special characteristics.

Saint-Peter, a city you never stop to walking around

Saint-Peter is a city that still has a lot to offer you. The synagogue of St-Peter, the St-Ulrich church, the ruins of the observation tower, the place Luuk, Albert, Karin or its houses, its small streets, its parks are so much to see again and again. Do not hesitate to make the detour to this city of character with such unique and well known architecture.
