Profiles of Yellow Hill: The man behind it all

In this series, we get to know the profiles of Yellow Hill a bit better. The last profile interview we did was with the most influential person in Yellow Hill, Martijn Coenen, which you can read here. Today we have the pleasure to interview the man himself; Governor Skibitth. There are many different kinds of Cities Skylines content on YouTube. There are speed builds, first-person rides, storytelling, and so on. But never in the history of the CS community have we had a series with this much involvement from the audience (at least to YHMPs knowledge). How did you come up with this idea?

Well I've always had this idea in mind because it sounds both like a multiplayer play and fun and building/creating a map with many people will give the map a unique look and that because we all have a different point of views, ideas and build stuff differently. Also having the possibility to look on a website and see things about a region or town/village is also very cool and see who invested there, what businesses were done, what is their view and so on. And all these are being done as investments from fictive companies.

Did you ever think this project would become so big and so complex?

To be honest? No. I've made this possible only for Patrons because I always want to give more in return for them for showing their support. I am surprised how many joined and how many are still loving this.

If you were an investor, what kind of businesses would you invest in?

I would choose the oil way: Oil Extractor, Oil Refinery, and Gas Stations. Having a Truck Factory was also a pretty good idea until competition popped up.

We can all see there is a lot of work going into making your videos, do you have any helpers? Editors etc?

No… just me doing this. However, I had lots of help from Christiansen for creating the master file (MF), also Fred and HAVVKZ help me a lot with updating the MF. It's really hard to do more than 1 video per week because I have lots of things to build, I have to update the website, sometimes the MF and there’s also recordings/editing plus real-life stuff.

Which build in Yellow Hill are you the happiest with so far? It can be anything from a single house, an intersection, or an entire neighborhood.

There are plenty, but I'll choose only one which is simple, yet has a really interesting effect and that is the national road N10 that goes above St. Peter (the viaduct).

You’ve only just opened up Bergburg for investments. What will happen in the coming weeks? YHMP has intel saying there are two more villages in the works, will any of these open up in the foreseeable future?

Bergburg will be the real deal for sure, but there will be few more locations added to the map including extra zones. The 2 villages will be added pretty soon (hopefully) next 3-4 episodes.

The implementation of buses can be said to be successful, but we are still yet to see much development in trains, trams, and ferries, etc. Do you have any plans to speed up this process or is this only up to the investors?

Indeed, I would love to see some investments in this area of public transportation. I am kinda waiting for someone to be more interested in them so we can come up with a plan for it. It would be cool to see someone buying a train and do a special route between 2 locations or more. Trains will be expensive but might be worth it in terms of income. I haven't yet thought of how it will work, it's a work in progress. The cool thing is that for Bus/Tram/Train related businesses the income will vary and go lower in case more will be added on the route from different investors. I mean a train that goes on a route Bergburg - Ternat will make a specific amount of Skibbles per Month, but if there will be another one added by a competitor then they will split the income because less people will take their routes.

Finally, how’s life going? Have you settled into your new job yet? Do you have any vacation plans?

Sadly, my new job takes most of my time during the day now. I hope this will change soon, even though I don't think so. I am also having my wedding in August (it was postponed from last year) and we are doing preparations and there are lots of things to do regarding it. This is one of the reasons why I am not as active and that I don’t have the same time as before for doing vids. I don’t have any vacation plans yet. We shall see what 2021 brings.
